Survivor Outreach Services
Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) is an Army-wide program designed to provide dedicated and comprehensive support to survivors of deceased soldiers. The Army honors all survivors, regardless of component or manner of death of their soldier. The program is a combined effort with the assistant chief of staff for installation management (ACSIM) as the proponent: Installation Management Command (IMCOM) works with the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command (FMWRC), the Casualty and Mortuary Affairs Operation Division (CMAOD) and the Army National Guard. SOS has the sole mission of providing continuing support to survivors: assisting with obtaining benefits and providing social and emotional support. SOS ensures a seamless transition from the short-term support provided by the casualty assistance officer (CAO) and CMAOD to long-term case management for the survivor.
