NH 'Team Alpha' brings home serious hardware from regional shooting match

A team of 13 New Hampshire guardsmen competed in the annual Military Advisory Council Region 1 (MAC 1) combat marksmanship match from Aug. 20 to 23 at Camp Ethan Allen Training Site in Jericho, Vermont. They blazed through various pistol and rifle events and returned home with a haul of 22 awards, finishing second just behind Vermont in the final standings. Maj. Brooks Hayward, senior team member and operations officer with the 941st Military Police Battalion, NHARNG, credits the successful showing to the Guard’s rededication to training.

NH Food Bank mission ends

The New Hampshire National Guard worked its 15th and final mobile food pantry Aug 7. A team of guardsmen was temporarily assigned to aid the NH Food Bank with sorting, cooking and delivery operations since its COVID-19 relief mission began in April.

Cyber Yankee 2020 draws to successful conclusion

Cyber Yankee 2020, a regional exercise designed to provide cyber responders a virtual range to train and test their skills against cyberattacks, was hosted by the New Hampshire National Guard at the Edward Cross Training Center in Pembroke, N.H., July 21—31. The event was directed by Lt. Col. Woody Groton and hosted by N.H. for the second consecutive year.

Cyber Yankee 2020, a regional training exercise attended by National Guardsmen, Marines, as well as representatives from state and local agencies, is well underway at the Edward Cross Training Center in Pembroke, N.H.

Musso, again

The New Hampshire National Guard’s Combat Marksmanship Competition, attended annually by soldiers and airmen of all ranks and career fields, was conducted July 10-12 at Fort Devens, Mass. About 60 Guardsmen of varied marksmanship experience competed in both individual and team competitions, comprising pistol, rifle, shotgun and machine gun events.

Drawn to what matters

With the New Hampshire National Guard at the forefront of most everything COVID-19 in the Granite State, Pfc. Kevin Blackstone immersed himself in a variety of small tasks from maintenance to his current duties with Task Force Distribution. The food bank mission required NH guardsmen to take on a variety of extra duties, long hours, and a fair amount of stress. Some days during a mobile food pantry, Blackstone and other soldiers gave food to families who had nowhere else to go. “At the end of the day, I could decompress by drinking a beer or I could decompress by capturing something for posterity,” he said. Blackstone chose the latter. He decided to draw.

For the second consecutive year, the New Hampshire National Guard is hosting a regional Cyber Yankee exercise July 20 - 31 at the Edward Cross Training Center in Pembroke. Army and Air National Guard cyber defense teams from across New England will test their skills during a formidable exercise designed to simulate response to cyberattacks.
