Namesake of NH Air Base Honored

The New Hampshire National Guard dedicated its new Heritage Room on May 20 in memory of New Hampshire Medal of Honor recipient, Capt. Harl Pease Jr., a pilot who was killed during World War II. Distinguished guests attended a small ribbon-cutting ceremony held at Concord's state military reservation, including Pease family members and 14 retired general officers.

For the first time in three years, the 195th Regional Training Institute hosted the Region 1 Officer Candidate School (OCS) Field Leadership Exercise (FLX) at the New Hampshire National Guard Training Site in Center Strafford from May 12 to 15. More than 60 officer candidates from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire participated in the rigorous, four-day exercise.

Promising Start For New Search, Rescue Team

To the astonishment of State Command Sgt. Maj. William Ferland, more than half of the 70 New Hampshire guardsmen who said they were interested in forming a volunteer search and rescue team reported to the first training session May 7 at the Edward Cross Training Center in Pembroke. “It’s a promising start,” said Ferland, who drafted the invite for the all-NHNG force after learning of a long-running gap in coverage of the state's southern tier. “I thought this would be a natural fit for us.”
